Summer Ford
My name is Summer Ford, and I am 27 years old. I have two 4-year-old girls (Nadia and Jovon) and a 2-month-old son (Caleb). I am married to Jerome, a visual artist and a former native of New Orleans; we live in Opelousas. As a student studying education and psychology, full-time special education teacher, mother and wife, I am often pressed for time and am always looking for ways to better manage the little time that I have. Sometimes I feel as if I am going crazy trying to balance all my responsibilities and interests. I am always trying to find creative ways to keep my house organized – without much success. In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing computer games, writing, dancing and spending quality time with my family. I love to learn and am especially interested in finding ways to make the educational curriculum more accessible to, and accepting of, children with learning, emotional and behavioral disabilities.

Kymberly Guinn
Hi, my name is Kymberly Guinn, but you can call me Kym. I am 31 years old and a mother of two boys. Kyler is my oldest at 13 and Ian is my baby at 8 months. I am married to a great guy named John. I have two fulltime jobs: the first as mom/wife, the second as a pharmacy technician at a local hospital. My husband and I are originally from Jennings, which is a small town about 40 miles west of Lafayette. We moved here about three years ago and decided to make Acadiana our home! I love being a mom again after 13 years. I must say that it was very rough in the beginning but it has only gotten easier and better with time. There is nothing sweeter for me than seeing my 13-year-old holding his baby brother.

Cari Fontenot
My name is Cari Fontenot. I am 31 years old and a lifelong native of Lafayette. I am the proud mother of two children, Hannah, who is 7 years old, and Dillon, who is 9 years old. They both attend Lafayette Christian Academy, and we are members of The Family Church here in Lafayette. I am employed part time in the mornings, and work for a local flooring company. I am a Cub Scout den leader and a Girl Scout leader. My hobbies include scrapbooking, movie nights at home and volunteering at the school. Like most mothers, my two children are my biggest accomplishments!

I’m a proud mother of four children -- Jenifer, 23; John, 22; Tyler, 11, and Kristina, 6 -- and a very proud grandmother of 2-year-old granddaughter Gabrielle. With this wide range of children, you would think I’d have seen it all, but don’t be fooled. They are all totally different people and still keep me jumping. Born in Pennsylvania, raised/bounced between Pennsylvania and Texas until age 18, I became a permanent fixture with my husband here in Louisiana in 1990. And with the food and people like y’all have around here, I’m here to stay. For the past five years, I have been a home child-care provider for kids ranging in age from newborn to 3 years old. I have put in my time as class mom, Cub Scout leader and children's program coordinator for the Lafayette Jaycees. And, I guess I was made for hanging with kids forever. I love to cook and will try anything at least once. I like looking at a recipe and then adding my own touches. Nothing ever comes out the same twice. I am looking forward to the acadianamoms.com experience.

Michelle Myers Fontenot
I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, an older sister, a cousin, an aunt, a nanny, an aunt-nanny, an in-law, a friend, a work in progress. ... I was a young mother. I was a single mother. I worked full time and went to school part time for many years — the university and I both changed our names by the time I earned a degree. My family and their love keep me comparatively sane. I am now the mother of one beautiful teenage daughter and one fearless toddler. We co-sleep. I breastfeed — in public — without a cover. I cloth diaper my baby. I like to wear my baby — he is getting heavy, though, so he often rides on one of my shoulders. I listen to Walton & Johnson. I am a baby sign proponent. I am a circumcision opponent. I think it is easier to make baby food than keep a clean house. I believe that women should be fully educated about childbirth and all options that are available to them. I believe in exposing children to the arts. I believe in letting children be children. I believe that I will learn more from my children than they will
ever learn from me.

Christene Zagone
My name is Christene Zagone. I am a Beaumont, Texas, native and have lived in Louisiana since 1986 (except one year in Florida). I have lived in the Lafayette area since August 2006. I have three teenagers: My son is 19, my daughters are 18 and 13. I worked my way through college -- it took me 10 years to get my accounting degree. Since my children were born, I've tried to only work part-time. It hasn't always worked out that way. I've been on both sides of the fence -- a stay-at-home mom and a working mother. I am a CPA licensed in Texas and Louisiana, but I'm not your typical CPA. I'm very outgoing and actually pretty funny. I love to laugh and to make other people laugh. I like to dance, but I can't dance! I like to sing, but I can't sing! I love to travel and meet new people. I try to embrace life and the changes that come with being alive. I look forward to sharing adventures with the moms of Acadiana.

Lisa Smith Killeen
My name is Lisa Smith Killeen. I am 42 years of age. The last 18 of those years have been spent married to the love of my life, Danny Killeen. We have three beautiful children: Brandon, 16; Andrew, 13 ½; and our baby, Ryan, 7. We also have a precious mini schnauzer, Shadow.
People ask me if it bothers me that I am the only female in our household. My answer is always the same. I would not trade it for anything. I am spoiled rotten by all of the men in my family.
I am proud to be a “stay at home” mom. My job as mother is 24/7, as all of you mothers out there know. In addition to being a fulltime mom, I “wear several other hats,” as I have been told. I have started up a few businesses over the years. I started a business called Nethelp of Acadiana where I design websites for customers as well as Internet consulting. I have been doing this for about 12 years now. I also have Lisa K Products, formally called Natural Indulgence by Lisa, where I make and sell handmade, 100% pure bath and body products such as soaps, body lotions, body creams, body scrubs, etc. In addition to both of these, I just started an online auction site called Acadi-Auction for people in and around the Lafayette area to buy and sell items.
Volunteering is very important to me and plays a very important role in my life as well as my family’s. I was recently elected president of the Women’s Guild at St. Pius X Catholic Church. I am editor for the St. Pius X Catholic Church website as well as publishing their monthly e-mail newsletter. I was also recently appointed to serve on the St. Pius Elementary School Board. I also serve as den leader for Pack 10. People often tell me I volunteer too much, have “too much on my plate,” etc. and my reply is always the same: “The more the better.” I find if I don’t have much going on, I can’t concentrate and I don’t do my best, but give me 10 things to do and I will perform my duties to perfection. I am very excited about being an “Acadiana Mom.” I look forward to getting to know the other Acadiana Moms as well as all other moms out there who will be using AcadianaMoms.com as a vital resource in their life. I am honored to be part of this exciting new adventure.

Karin Taylor
I am a 38-year-old stay-at-home mom to two boys and a girl. My oldest son, Kelly, is 12 and in middle school. Hunter is my second son. He is 6 and in first grade. My daughter, Sarah, just made 4 and she attends a mother’s day out-type preschool class twice a week. My kids are real-life kids who are amazing and, dare I say it, not “perfect.” Their three personalities could not be more different and each one is absolutely wonderful and challenging in their own way. Kelly is my overachiever who is involved in everything from gifted classes to athletics. Hunter is more laid back and just kind of goes with the flow. Sarah is a princess. Do not tell her otherwise; she will not accept it. I love all three of them with everything I’ve got. My husband, Jeff, is a very hard worker and dedicated husband and father. I am originally from Bayou Vista and we moved to Lafayette in 2005 from Shreveport. I used to work as a center director for a national child care company where I was responsible for children from 6 weeks to 12 years old. Since then, I’ve become a PTA mom, volunteering for everything from room mom to newsletter editor to fundraising chairperson. I love being a stay-at-home mom and wouldn’t give it up for anything. In my spare time (ha) I love to buy and sell on ebay, update my MySpace page (yes, Mom’s on MySpace), scrapbooking, work in my yard and decorate my home. I am very anxious to start this project and share ideas and learn more about the Acadiana Moms!

Carlie Faulk
Hey, everyone. My name is Carlie Faulk and as of this year I can officially say I am "in my thirties." I've been married to a wonderful man for 12 years and we have four great kids ages 11, 9, 8 and 4 (three boys and a girl). I'm a SAHM who homeschools (yes, all four). I won't tell you that homeschool is the only way, but it is the right way for us. My husband and I are active volunteers at Crossroads Church. I like to stay up late, sleep late and read fiction -- I love Mexican food, sweet tea and chocolate yogurt with strawberries in a waffle cone from TCBY. I like to watch movies with my hubby and walk around the block with the kids. I love to go shopping (especially for a good sale) and I really love going on road trips and vacations. I don't like being late, spiders, fake people or traffic! As you can see, I'm a really laid-back person; however, on the flip side, I'm very organized. This is one of the many reasons homeschooling fits so well with our lifestyle.

Timberly Aymond
My name is Timberly Aymond. I grew up in a small town named Chauvin. Most people know the area when you say Cocodrie. I grew up having many exotic pets such as an alligator and a 'coon. I met my husband, Brady, seven years ago and we have been married for five years. We have two boys: Kaleb James is 3 and will be 4 in October, and Logan Timothy is 4 months. Being mother/nurse/doctor/listener to about 50 fifth-graders at Ossun Elementary is one of my many jobs. I like my career, but wish I could be home raising my two little guys. I love to have fun!
In fact, my students have just voted me to be the funniest teacher. I love to sing and sing off-key on purpose in class. I love "Grease" and "Wizard of Oz." When I am in the mood, I can be a complete blabbermouth. I miss my family (down the bayou) much, but enjoy my little family here. I believe everything is part of God's plan and when hard times approach I know that is part of my plan.

Carolyn Gill-Moore
Carolyn Gill-Moore is a stay-at-home mother to a 1-year-old and an infant. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University in New Orleans and studied graphic design and art history at Delgado Community College. She and her husband, Chris, resided in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina moved them, as well as many others, into the Lafayette area. Her husband still commutes to New Orleans for office work as well as to various locations for offshore work. Carolyn worked in New Orleans, showing her artwork in galleries and working in the graphic design/advertising/media field. She was forced to quit working when she was pregnant due to complications. She decided instead to be an overworked and underpaid mother, maid, cook, referee, taxi driver, medic, 2 a.m. feeding machine and, last but not least, wife!!!

Hi. My name is Colleen Thomas and I am a mother of 3 children, a 12-year-old daughter, an 8-year-old son and a 23-month-old girl. I have been married for 13 years. My family and I moved to Lafayette after we lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. I am a licensed professional counselor. I used to work for a child psychologist testing children for learning disabilities. I am currently working for a Medicaid rehab agency with families and children with behavioral/emotional problems.
I think all moms have a tremendous responsibility raising children, and we gain knowledge and strength through each other. We need to take time for ourselves so we can continue to give back to our families and communities. One way to do this is to connect with other moms, to chat, to question, to learn and to support one another.

I was born in Washington State where I married my high school sweetheart. We have four children in public school. Janise Bellard
My name is Janise Bellard and I'm a 33-year-old wife and mom. My husband, Joey, and I have been together almost 17 years, since high school! We have been married nine years and have three boys: Blake, 9, Andre, 8, and Teague, 2. I am a stay-at-home mom to my boys and a runner for my husband's boat-repair shop. I consider myself to be an open-minded, try-to- please-everyone, recovering perfectionist. I am the 11th of 14 children, nine girls and five boys, all to the same parents, no twins, and yes, we are Catholic! I am VERY sarcastic and I tend to get aggravated when my boys are sarcastic to me! I now understand the saying "you reap what you sow." We are together trying to tone it down. I was very quiet growing up but that has surely changed. I love sharing any new information I have with anyone that is willing to listen.

I am 47 years old, married to my wonderful husband, Bobby, for 27 years and have 3 children who I have loved raising. They each have their own wonderful and unique personality, are good, kind, respectful people who I enjoy being around. Our oldest son is 25 years old, our daughter is 23 (married) and our youngest son is 16. I grew up in Arabi, which is a small suburb of New Orleans, and have lived in Lafayette since April 1979. I fell in love with this "big little town" on my very first visit here. One of my greatest joys is being a mom, even now, when the nest is on the brink of being empty. I have enjoyed being involved in almost every school the kids have intended, as Room Mom, PTO member and as part of numerous fund-raisers. I am a V.P. for a small oil field service company here in town, just recently become a real estate broker and have taken on a new hobby (although one might consider it an addiction) of playing tennis. I am excited about and look forward to this part of my life with its endless possibilities and adventures.

Leanne Bost
I'm Leanne Bost, a young and trendy mom from St. Martinville. I'm married to Benjamin Bost and am a proud military wife -- I'm my husband's biggest supporter and number one fan. Benjamin and I have an amazing 8-year-old little boy named Logan, and we hope to one day expand our family. We're currently building our first home and will soon be relocating to New Iberia. I was a stay-at-home mom until Logan's sixth birthday . When Ben returned home from deployment to Iraq, I decided I was ready to work outside of the home. I work full-time in sales and marketing for a local independent agency and am quite fond of my career. Ben sometimes suggests that I am notably matter-of-fact and often loudly voice my opinion; I think he is too cordial. I adore my family and friends, and enjoy shopping, having cookouts with friends and family, singing karaoke, shopping, watching movies, road trips, learning new things, and shopping -- not necessarily in that order. I'm excited about being an Acadiana Mom because it will give me the opportunity to share experiences and ideas with other moms on the best gift a woman could ever receive: OUR CHILDREN!

Greetings! I am Coretta Perkins. I am the wife of one charming and adorable husband and the mom of three precious little girls, they are five, two, and eleven months old. I have lived in the Acadiana area for five years. It is a wonderful place to grow a family. While living here we have become a part of a unique and culturally rich community which has broadened our horizons in many ways.
Prior to becoming a wife and mom I was(am) an elementary school teacher. During my teaching years I felt so knowledgeable and insightful regarding children. I just knew that I was prepared and ready to handle them as soon as I became a mother. Then we had baby number one - POW! After my labor(couldn't dilate past 3 cm in 5 hours), delivery(epidural that I just knew I wouldn't need), and 24 hours of no sleep while attempting to nurse a hungry screaming newborn (who just didn't "latch-on" as perfectly as the book said she would) - I became grossly aware of my lack of skills with my own flesh and blood. And that is how I entered this season of motherhood.
Never the less I'm still alive and thriving after moving to a new community where I knew no one, a career move to becoming a full time wife and mother, and having three children in four years. I don't thrive because my life is perfect and I'm the perfect wife and mother. I've found a sweet spot. As I look back at the time I became a "new mom" I remember feeling anxious, tired, overwhelmed, and ill-equipped to nurture and raise a real-live human being. At the same time I had what we're creating here - a support community for mothers as we walk through this journey of motherhood. My sister-friends at that time were not close in proximity, but close in spirit and heart. They were fellow sojourners in motherhood some new moms, some with school aged children, some with teens, as well as those with adult children. They called me, encouraged me, listened to me, and helped me to understand that I wasn't alone and I would make it through the difficult times, as well as celebrate with me the many wonderful times.
Therefore, I'm so excited about this path that we're taking with the Advertiser, because as moms we need one another. We need the support, encouragement, a listening ear, as well as informed and insightful information from the experts on the front-lines - MOMS! So, let's enjoy the journey together.
Your Partner,
Coretta

Arica Prejean
My name is Arica Prejean. I am proudly married to my best friend of 12 years, Ian. We have two beautiful children, Kameron who is 5, and Kennedy who will be 2 in July. We also parent two boxers, Chase and Burkley, who sometimes give us more trouble than the kids! In January of this year I took a major leap and opened my own business called Express Personnel here in Lafayette. I run all operations of the business while my husband works full-time for Weatherford. We are very family-oriented and enjoy spending any free time with family and friends. I am hoping that by being one of "The Moms," I will have a chance to learn from your experiences and also have a chance to share some of mine!

Jeantelle LeBlanc
My name is Jeantelle LeBlanc. My husband and I have two beautiful children, a 12-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son whom we absolutely adore. Throw in a 7-year-old shih-tzu/maltese and I'd say we are a typical Southern family. I am a native of Lafayette but lived away for eight years while my husband served in the Air Force. I spent 10 years in property management, but decided after our son was born not to return to work full time. I am anything but a SAHM! I work two mornings a week for a local architect, I am usually driving my daughter to and from various activities, and I am very active in a moms group. I have been known as a career woman and I will always be "Sis" to my three younger sisters. I love to read and go to the beach - REALLY love reading at the beach!! I love to spend time with family and friends. But at the end of the day, I am most happy being wife and mom.

Stephani Uhler
My name is Stephani Uhler. I am a 33-year-old stay-at-home mom of a very special 3 1/2 year old little girl named Hailey. After growing up in Slidell, I later attended Southeastern Louisiana University working on a double degree in management and marketing while I completed a minor in horticulture. After living in various cities in and around Louisiana, I finially settled down in the Acadiana area and started a family.I have worked for various oilfield companies in the area over the years as a receptionist and a research assistant before deciding on my new career as a stay-at-home mom. By being a first-time mother of a premature baby born with severe reflux, a speech delay and Sensory Integration Dysfunction, I have learned about a whole new world for children with special needs and accommodations. I find myself to be a very unique mother in the fact that I have made it my goal in life to find my daughter all of the available resources and help that our community has to offer to accommodate her needs. Although she appears to be just as happy and playful as every other normal child her age, we have also found, through our trials and tribulations, how to make the world around her an easier place.I hope through our family's experiences we can offer ideas, suggestions and resources to give other families experiencing the same thing an easier transition into the world of children with special needs.

I am a stay-at-home mother of one precious 2 ½ year old boy, and I have been married for 5 years. My husband and I live in Broussard and attend Our Savior’s Church. My marriage is centered around Jesus and my child-rearing practices center around the curriculum “Growing Kids God’s Way.” Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, I taught high school for 10 years. Now I fill my days with housework and taking care of my son. Transitioning from a professional to a stay-at-home mom has been one of the hardest things I have ever done but, after 2 ½ years, I see the benefits and rewards in it. I value and treasure these preschool years with my son and am thankful for the opportunity to watch him grow and be there with him every step of the way. I love being the one who wipes his tears, gives him his hugs and rejoices with him in his accomplishments. Being a stay-at-home mom is a precious gift from God!

Melissa Andries
Hi! I am Melissa Andries, your average, everyday typical mommy ... living life one day at a time and learning to enjoy the “simple things” as I go. I have four BEAUTIFUL children ... five, if you count my husband (heehee)! And,as if that’s not enough to keep my head spinning, I am a fulltime photographer. I love it!!!!
Soooo, here’s my story:
I am 33 years old and originally from Gulfport, Miss. Yes, I am a “storm” person, BUT we were gonna move to the Lafayette area anyway because my husband has family here. Our plans just got “bumped up” a little!! My children have always come first for me. I do work, but it is around my little pumpkins’ schedules. I have a 14-year old-boy (Ken), a 7-year-old boy (Connor), a 5-year-old girl (Rielly) and a 2-year-old boy (Reid). My kids are great. They teach me a lot -- probably even more than I teach them.
My wonderful husband, Jacob, keeps me going. He is a very energetic person and loves to work!! He stands behind all my hopes and dreams and believes in me like no other. I am very blessed to have him by my side.
I absolutely LOVE my “day job.” I photograph children ... how fun is that?!?! Photography is my true passion and is very much a part of who I am. It pretty much defines me. Other than that, some things I enjoy are an interesting book, traveling, a good glass of wine and a heartfelt conversation ... not necessarily all at the same time.
That’s me ... in a nutshell.

Rhonda Richard
My name is Rhonda Richard. I was born & raised in Lafayette, moved away for college & graduate school & moved back to be closer to my family in 2002. I have been married to my very hard-working & loving husband, Randall, for almost 6 years. We have one silly little boy, Carter, who is 20 months old & is the light of my life. When Carter was born in October 2005, I found my calling in life...to be a full-time stay-at-home mom. This is the most fulfilling & important role I have ever played - I love every single minute of it & am constantly amazed at Carter's growth & development. In my ocassional spare time, I enjoy shopping, playing on the internet, reading & spending time with my friends & family. I love being around other moms & feel that the mom-to-mom support in my life is extremely important to me in raising my child. It is so reassuring for me to be able to talk to other moms who are going through, or have gone through, similar issues & stages, & find out what works best for them.

Emilie Bradley
My name is Emilie Bradley and I am a 28-year-old mom and wife. My husband, Jasen, and I have been married for four years and have a beautiful daughter, Ella, who is now 1 ½ years old. She has been the highlight of our lives for the past year and a half. My husband and I both grew up in the small town of Erath, where we met in high school. We both moved away to attend McNeese State University where I earned my degree in dietetics. We moved to Lafayette when we got married. I worked as a dietitian at Women’s and Children’s Hospital until my daughter was born. She completely stole my heart, and I decided to become a stay-at-home mom. It was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make, but I have no regrets. I love watching her grow and develop daily; it has been such a rewarding experience for me. I would have never thought that I would enjoy being home with her so much. Some days I miss working, but the wonderful world of nutrition will still be there when she is grown. Although I am a stay-at-home mom, we really don’t stay home all that much. I am active in a moms group here in Lafayette, which keeps us pretty busy. We also enjoy going to the library together and visiting with family and friends. In the free time that I find, I enjoy reading, shopping and sewing for Ella (a new hobby of mine).
I plan to someday go back to work as a dietitian once my children are all in school, but until then I continue to keep up my professional license and read up on nutrition topics that interest me as time allows
